Helpful hints:
- Don’t forget to include a clearly labeled, PRINT QUALITY photo with your press release
- Photos need to be print quality = minimum 300 dpi, 6” x 4” (~1800 pixels wide)
- Photos typically need to be horizontal, i.e. landscape orientation, not portrait.
-If you have a hi-res instagram-style square version of your photo at 1080 px x 1080 px, we can also use that in the program and online.
-Photos should ideally reflect the vision or aesthetic of the show. You should not plan to use your headshot as a publicity photo or for the program.
-Photos should be clearly labeled, captioned left-to-right, with photo credit included. Consider using the following naming convention to cut down on the number of times a journalist or editor has to follow-up with you about who’s who in your image: NameOfShow_NameOfActor1_NameOfActor2_PhotoCredit_NameOfPhotographer
-Photos should be CLEAR AND IN SHARP FOCUS and have good contrast between light and dark. They should be interesting, convey some action, and ideally create a response in the viewer. Usually “arty,” unfocused pictures, or pictures with excessive sexual content, are not allowed. - Try and find a compelling hook for your show beyond, “Hi, I’ve written a show.” What makes your show unique? What makes it relevant to the world we live in? Why is THIS the story you want to tell? And more importantly, why is THIS the show that the media should report on out of the 81 in the fest?
- Is your show one that someone other than a theatre critic could report on? Is it a musical? Consider reaching out to music critics. Is it about your around-the-world sailing adventure? Why not drop a line to a travel mag? Are you writing from a perspective of a specific identity or culture? Find out who’s writing about that, and invite them to check you out or write about it.
